Something changed in how homeowners find contractors. They're not just Googling anymore. They're asking ChatGPT, Siri, and Gemini — and those tools are recommending specific businesses by name.
Siri is about to get worse. iOS 26.4 (landing in April) will generate AI summaries for local searches, pulling from reviews, images, and web data to recommend contractors by name. If your business isn't showing up in those results, someone else's is.
THIS WEEK: How to make sure AI recommends you, not your competitor
1. Your reviews need specifics, not just stars.
AI tools read review content. "Great job" doesn't help. "Fixed our burst pipe in Cincinnati in 45 minutes" does. Start asking customers to mention the service and location in their review. One sentence makes the difference.
2. Your website needs to answer questions, not just list services.
Add an FAQ section. Write it like you're answering a customer question out loud. "Do you offer emergency roofing repair in Hamilton County? Yes, we..." ChatGPT and Gemini pull from pages that answer specific questions — not generic service lists.
3. Check what AI says about you right now.
Go to ChatGPT and type: "Who are the best [roofers/plumbers/HVAC techs] in [your city]?" See if you show up. If a competitor does and you don't, look at their reviews and website. That's your gap.
Tool of the Week: ServiceCall AI
Launched last week for home service contractors. Automates lead qualification across roofing, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Worth a look: servicecall.ai
Quick hits
• R-410A phaseout means 3.5M HVAC replacements this year. Big opportunity if you're showing up in AI search before storm season.
• AutoHVAC.ai does Manual J calculations in 60 seconds for $47/mo. Way cheaper than Wrightsoft.
• "GEO" (Generative Engine Optimization) is AI SEO. It's a real discipline now. Start learning it or budget for someone who has.
The contractors who figure out AI search in the next 6 months will have a serious edge. The ones who wait will wonder why their Google ranking stopped mattering.
